MSOA Degree Major
Studio Salvage is a studio and project proposal that aims to assist in re-defining and re-aligning understanding of material value through the re-engineering and reuse of salvaged high-end lighting components and materials.
Collaborating companies CTO, Marc Wood Studio, J Adams and Co.and Bert Frank, all provided the opportunity for valuable insight and access to material waste. It is thanks to them that such high quality material became accessible for the exploration of reuse, and in turn, the realisation of the lighting objects in this project.
Each one-of-a-kind, handmade luminaire tells its own story through the defects and imperfections it bears — flaws that initially caused it to fail quality control and be rejected for its original purpose.
This project was commissioned for the MSOA Vertical Gallery in the Degree Show, won the Clerkenwell Design Week award at ND2025, was featured in ICON magazine, and was shown at Clerkenwell Design Week 2025 in the new ‘Church of Design at St Bartholomew’s Church.
