Nulty Bespoke.

Lunate was developed for a project during my time at Nulty Bespoke. This bespoke chandelier was created as a 20-piece cascading focal point chandelier for a private residence in Hampstead Heath, commissioned by SHH Interior Design Studio.

Developed in response to a brief that sought to highlight the natural beauty and translucency of alabaster stone, the design celebrates the material’s unique ability to diffuse light with an atmospheric glow.

Each element of Lunate features a circular alabaster disc delicately suspended from slender bronze-finished rods, arranged in
a descending formation that flows through the vertical space of the staircase and acts as an entry focal point for the house. When illuminated, the warm, organic veining of the alabaster comes alive.

Working in conjunction with British specialist stone masons Brittanicus, we were able to focus in on the beauty and uniqueness of British Alabaster. Mined in Staffordshire, the unique version of the commonly used lighting material, is a form of gypsum which has been used in this country for sculpture and decorative work for at least eight centuries.

The method of mining makes for translucent tones of pale bluey grey with light brown veining that occur from fossilised earth. These tones are elevated massively when back-lit making for a very distinct lighting product.
